Rural and cattle fences use many different materials; 21 Timbers is committed to holding stock of Stainer posts, split posts and a variety of widths of cattle rail. Untreated hardwood material being used should be class 1 durability for inground posts or sleepers. Class 1 durability timber is the highest level of natural durability a species of wood can have.
In rural applications there are commonly 200 – 250mm round strainer posts and 150mm split posts. In above-ground settings, it is expected to last more than 40 years, and in-ground it has an average life expectancy of more than 25 years. A durability 2 is required as a minimum for rails or anything above ground level and not in proximity of the ground.
Cattle rail which is a 150 x 38 or 125 x 38. Class 2 durability timber has an average life expectancy outdoors, above-ground of 15 to 40 years, and in-ground of 15 to 25 years. Correct treatment on non-durability Class 1 timber will help achieve maximum life out of the timber product as well.
True logs (round logs) are a great example of this and have a great life expectancy if installed and maintained correctly. So, no matter the size of a rural job, timber is always the easier choice.
